Russian media are speculating one of Russia’s top basketball club Khimki could go bankrupt in the near future.

Last year’s runners-up in the Russian domestic leahue have been having financial problems since a change in ownership in late 2012.

The team’s Russian Internationals Vitaly Fridzon and Sergey Monya as well as the number of other key players haven’t been paid since last October and are threatening to leave the club if the problem isn’t solved.

“The players are ready to launch a strike and quit training. Some of them have bids from other teams,”
the R-Sport agency quotes an unnamed source close to the club.

The lack of financial stability didn’t affect Khimki’s performance though as the team currently sit among the leaders in both the VTB League and Euroleague.
