Member of the European Parliament, Ulrike Lunacek, said that the planned dialogue between Belgrade and the Albanian separatists in Kosovo will not include any talks about the status of Kosovo.
“I realized in the meantime based on consultations with other MPs and the atmosphere in the parliament that it would be less likely for this amendment to be adopted if it was submitted its initial form that excludes talks on partition. Therefore, I extracted that part,” Lunacek is quoted by the Belgrade daily Novosti as saying.
Speaking to Deutsche Welle earlier, Lunacek said that Serbia is expected to eventually recognize Kosovo or it can forget about any EU membership.
She says that the Resolution on Serbia, adopted in the EP last week “precisely determines that the status of Kosovo, as it is today, cannot be brought into question.”
“The fact that the status cannot be questioned implies that there will be no discussion on the borders that is division of Kosovo. Now, we should look to the future. Moreover, Serbia and Kosovo should discuss their EU paths for the sake of their citizens, and this should be the focus of the dialogue,” Lunacek said.
She expressed hope that the dialogue will start as soon as possible that is immediately after the election of a new government in Kosovo.
Lunacek declined to comment on the recent Council of Europe report that names the current Albanian separatists leader Hashim Thaci as the chief of Albanian mafia that holds political power in Kosovo.
“I wish not to comment on that. This time I want to talk about the Resolution and the European path of Serbia,” said Lunacek.
