The star of 'Intolerable Cruelty' and Oscar-winning actress Catherine Zeta-Jones has helped preserve her Welsh heritage by buying the site of a lost royal palace that belonged to ancient Welsh princes.

The Hollywood actor made a "substantial" donation to a trust bidding to buy up farmland believed to be the site of the palace of the Llywelyn princes.

The 700-year-old lost palace of Llywelyn the Great and his grandson Llywelyn the Last once stood in what is now mostly fields, the Telegraph reported.

The Garth Celyn Trust is set to erect a public monument to the Welsh princes at the farmland in Bangor, North Wales.

"The home of the Welsh princes of Wales has been ignored for far too long," Paul Martin Remfry of the trust explained.

"The trustees are delighted that Catherine Zeta Jones is taking a personal interest in the work of the trust," Remfry said, adding that her involvement "will undoubtedly help to raise the profile of this Welsh project internationally."

"The historical and archaeological evidence is overwhelming and we want to ensure its guaranteed preservation for the benefit of present and future generations."
