One of the most sought-after conductors in the world, Russia's Valery Gergiev has earned a 'best performance' Grammy nomination for Rachmaninov's Symphonic Dances for both himself and the London Symphony Orchestra, of which he is Principal Conductor.

Maestro Gergiev has been Principal Conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra since 2007. The award-winning musician is also the driving force behind St. Petersburg’s eminent Mariinsky Theatre.  

The 59-year-old conductor also picked up a Grammy nod for Massenet's performance of 'Don Quichotte' with the Soloists' Ensemble Of The Mariinsky Academy Of Young Singers and Mariinsky Orchestra.

The indefatigable Gergiev has performed with many of the world’s most renowned musicians and orchestras, including the Wiener Philharmoniker, the orchestra of La Scala and the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra.

According to online studies of UK classical music, Gergiev was apparently the busiest conductor of 2010, performing 88 concerts in America and Europe over the course of the year.

The 55th Annual Grammy Awards winners will be announced in Los Angeles, on February 10.
