Police in Kosovo say assailants have ambushed the car of a Bosniak leader in Kosovo’s tense north, killing him and wounding his companion.
Spokesman Besim Hoti says police are still investigating the motives behind Wednesday’s attack in the town of Leposavic, in Kosovo’s Serb-run north. Hoti did not identify the victim but said he was a political leader of the minority Bosniak community in the country’s north and worked with Kosovo’s ethnic Albanian-dominated authorities.
The Serb minority refuses Pristina’s rule and rejects Kosovo’s declaration of independence from Serbia. Serb leaders in Kosovo’s north have called for a boycott of the general election this weekend.
Some 35,000 members of the Bosniak community live in Kosovo.
