Serbia will formally submmit a request to enter the European Union (EU) in mid October to end unambiguous future of entering the group, according to a Serbian government statement on Tuesday.
EU’s 27 member states have expressed support to Serbia to run for EU membership, which gives Serbia hope to overcome differences with the EU over Kosovo’s independence, radio Serbia quoted the statement as saying.
According to the statement Serbia’s candidacy for EU membership faced the opposition of an EU member state.
The statement noted that a transitional government is leading the un-named country at present, a possibility that such a position could be changed in the uture.
