Ahead of this season’s DTM series the Audi team made their first trip to Moscow and unveiled their improved A5 car as Russia prepares to host their first ever stage in the racing series.

The DTM or Touring Car series is a type of racing known as “silhouette”, where the cars look like production models, but are mechanically different.

With the passion for motorsport increasing in Russia the sixth stage of the ten-race series will be held this summer in Moscow.

On August 4, the DTM will enter new territory contesting a stage of the 2013 season at the Moscow Raceway circuit – their first appearance in Russia in their 30-year history.

Twenty four cars representing the three manufacturers Audi, Mercedes-Benz and BMW will contest the series and top drivers, some with Formula One experience are gearing up to test their skills at the new Moscow Raceway circuit.

“I’ve never been to Moscow. I’ve never been to Russia. I’ve seen a lot on TV. I also watched last year when the GT racing were driving on the Moscow Raceway and I think it’s quite impressive for DTM,” says Audi driver Mattias Ekstrom.

“From what I saw from this track already, I’m expecting a nice challenge, some nice corners, some fast corners. Fast corners for drivers are always nice. So I’m really looking forward to it, for the race here,” Eduardo Montara echoes his teammate.

This year’s calendar begins on May 5 in Germany with other rounds also in Austria, Netherlands, England and Russia.

As the series is based mainly in central Europe, it’s not yet widely known to the Russian public so the Moscow race will provide the high-octane Series with a great opportunity to increase its fan base.

Meanwhile, spectators also had a sneak preview of one of the cars that will be racing this season as the Audi team revealed their new A5.
