WBA ‘regular’ cruiserweight champ, Denis Lebedev, has successfully defended his title, delivering a devastating knockout to Santander Silgado of Columbia in front of home fans in Moscow.
A gig by Busta Rhymes preceded the bout, but even the support from one of America’s notorious rappers wasn’t enough to inspire Silgado to the win.
The Colombian was well-motivated and had an answer for every one Lebedev’s attack in the opening rounds.
But a single mistake cost him the match as Silgado missed a punch from the Russian in the middle of the fourth round.
This was enough for Lebedev to sense victory, with the champion putting his opponent under pressure to finish the bout with a stunning KO.
The Russian’s powerful left-hander found Silgado’s chin, with the Colombian fighter collapsing on the floor to suffer his maiden professional defeat.
It was Lebedev’s first title defense after he was declared WBA cruiserweight champ without actually having to beat anybody at the end of October.
After the bout, the Russian’s promoter, Vladimir Khryunov, said that his man’s next match is to take place in the US.
“It’s going to be Madison Square Garden,” he revealed. “We’re currently in talks with Eddie Chambers.”
In the meantime, Lebedev has sent out a warning message to Chambers and all the other big names out there: “I’m hunting for you.”
The 33-year-old’s ring record has reached 25 victories (19 KOs) and one defeat after the Silgado win.
