Malaysian Muslims to protest Elton John gig over gay marriage

The Malaysian Anti-gay Islamic party plans to protest against Sir Elton John’s gig in the country. The conservative Muslims believe the show due to take place in Kuala Lumpur will 'drag' the country’s young into 'vice'.

On December 1 The Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) will take to the streets to protest the show of the famed British pop singer. The Muslims of Malaysia find his gay marriage to David Furnish unacceptable and also accuse Sir Elton's tour in Asia of promoting "hedonism".

“We will use the approach of submitting a memorandum [to the government] to protest against the concert,”
The Malaysian Times quotes PAS Youth Chief Nasrudin Hassan Tantawi as saying.

"Whatever it takes, we will not let up on our dakwah work and will continually remind all Muslims, particularly youths, not to get involved in matters that can drag them into vice,"
 he added.

The decision to take their anger to the streets was taken after the organizers rejected PAS’s demands to cancel the show at the Arena of Stars.
Sir Elton John performed in Malaysia last year to a sell out crowd.

Elton John has been married to David Furnish since 2005, when same-sex marriages were legalized in Britain. They have a child Zachary who is turning two this year. Recent reports also suggested that the couple are planning to have another baby from the same surrogate mother who gave birth to Zachary.
