Chinese Ambassador to Belgrade Wei Jinghua told Belgrade-based daily Politika on Saturday that Beijing will not change its position on China-Serbia relations.

China, as a principled country which values the feelings of the Serbian citizens and has never hurt them, will not change its position on the relations between the two countries, the ambassador said, adding that he hopes that Belgrade will continue understanding and supporting China when it comes to issues of vital importance for the country.

When asked if the attendance of Serbian Ombudsman Sasa Jankovic at the Nobel Peace Prize awarding ceremony means that Serbia broke the promise given to China that it will not have its representative in Oslo, Wei said that, when it comes to the Serbian government’s decision to change its mind in the last minute, China deeply regrets, but understands Serbia’s situation and the pressure that it is placed under.

Based on the principle of mutual respect, equality, mutual benefits and non-interference in internal policies regardless of the differences in ideology, social system and the system of values, the strategic partnership between China and Serbia will continue.

We will support Serbia’s justified concern over the issue of Kosovo, and at the same time, we hope that Serbia will continue to understand and support the Chinese side in respect of issues of vital interest for China, he said.

The awarding of the Nobel Prize to the criminal Liu Xiaobo, who propagates that China should be a colony for another 300 years and that it must be divided into 18 new states, and who has long encouraged the toppling of the national government, completely opposes the good motives of the Nobel Prize which symbolizes a ‘defender of peace’, and is a humiliation for it. I believe that the Serbian people, who boycotted the awarding of the Nobel Prize to Martti Ahtisaari, will completely understand China’s position, Wei underscored.

Serbian President Boris Tadic supported Ombudsman Sasa Jankovic’s attending the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony in Oslo, Tadic’s cabinet told Tanjug.
